About Us

Six decades of dedication to our community

Our History

Historic community gathering showing people coming together

Chorley And District Mencap Society was established in 1965 as the Chorley And District Society For Mentally Handicapped Children, reflecting the language and understanding of that era. Over the decades, we have evolved alongside society's growing awareness and respect for people with learning disabilities.

From our humble beginnings as a parent-led support group, we have grown into a vital community organization, officially registered as a charity (Number 225546) and dedicated to improving lives, championing rights, and creating opportunities for people with learning disabilities in Chorley and the surrounding district.

Today, we continue our mission with the same passion and commitment that inspired our founders, while embracing modern approaches to inclusion, empowerment, and support.
